The Big Shoot’s Woman of the Year: Abbey Ling

In celebration of International Women’s Day, we’re proud to announce our favourite, most inspirational female shooter that we’ve noticed over the past year. So, without further ado, it’s time to award British shooter Abbey Ling with the title.

Hailing from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, Abbey is a five-time world champion with both world cup and commonwealth medals to her name. She was the first woman to be crowned British champion three years in a row – not bad if you ask us. Her commonwealth medal came when she was part of the team who took silver in 2010 before becoming world champion and a European Championships silver medallist in 2013.

With her sights set on future Olympic success, Abbey competed in the women’s trap at the first European games held at Baku, Azerbaijan in 2015. In the same year, Abbey competed at the World Championships in Lonato, Italy where she helped her teammates Kirsty Barr and Charlotte Kerwood to win gold!

Having narrowly missed out on selection for the 2012 Team GB Olympic Squad, Abbey and husband Ed – a Rio 2016 Olympics bronze medal winner – are ready to bring some glory back from this year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia in April.

To top it all off, Shooting UK named Abbey their Clay Shooter of the Year – an honour she now shares with her husband. With great moments in the pipeline for the upcoming year, it’s fair to say that the Ling family have certainly got off to a shooting start…

You can follow Abbey on Twitter here.
