Upon arriving at your first ever clay shoot you’re given a full safety briefing by our qualified instructors and kitted out with all the safety gear to allow you to enjoy your day. Before you begin to shoot the instructors will see what your dominant eye is. This is a really simple process and can even be done when reading this, just point your finger to an object across the room. Now, close your left eye. If you can see the object at the end of your finger this means that you are right eye dominant. If instead the object has moved away from your finger, open your left eye and close your right, without moving your hand. If you’re left eye dominant, the object will now be at the end of your finger.

Once you’ve done this our expert instructors, who will be by your side throughout the session, will first teach you how to hold the gun and where to place the gun when firing. You’ll be taught to hold the gun’s butt in a groove inside your shoulder joint and then taught how to correctly hold your body to maintain accuracy when you fire your first shot.

Once you’ve got them down to a tee, you’re ready to fire! The clay pigeon will be fired at a beginner level, meaning it won’t make those crazy movements and our instructors will provide you with the tips and tricks on when to shoot and give you that all needed encouragement if you’re not quite hitting them just yet! Just don’t be nervous and stay calm, Clay shooting is fun and nobody is an expert straight away, you’ll fire much better and enjoy yourself much more when you’re nice and relaxed.

  1. I had my first shooting experience via a voucher from The Big Shoot .
My overriding recollection is what a shambles The Big Shoot were . The venue was changed three times , communication was very poor and above all The Big Shoot added nothing to the experience .
I could have easily arranged a shooting lesson with any one of the local gun clubs and it would have been cheaper .
I very nearly gave up on shooting after that first session , it was only my son’s insistance that got me back to it . I now have my own gun and shoot regularly at my local club , no thanks to The Big Shoot .

  2. Hi Brian, thanks for the comment. We’re grateful for the feedback and we will certainly take your comments on board so that we can improve where we can. All I can do is apologise for the negativity associated with your experience with us – we certainly aim to provide a hassle-free and enjoyable overall experience so it’s certainly disappointing to see a case such as yours so again, I offer our sincerest apologies. It’s great that you’re one of the many people who continue to support and grow the sport as it gains popularity as time goes on, so thank you for that! Many thanks, Tom.
