Most Valuable Shotguns

Antique shotguns and those made by famous gun makers are not only highly collectable they’re also incredibly valuable too, but getting your hands on a vintage or bespoke shotgun doesn’t come cheap and the real gems can cost you more than your standard supercar! Thankfully looking doesn’t cost a thing though and with that in mind here’s a look at five of the most expensive shotguns ever made, including a former president’s hunting rifle and a half a million pound bespoke shotgun.

Holland & Holland Royal Over and Under -Estimated price: £89,000

Holland and Holland 1

Founded in London in 1835, Holland and Holland are famous for creating some of the highest quality sporting rifles and shotguns in the world. They received their first Royal Warrant in 1963 and have previously made guns for both Prince Charles and the Duke of Edinburgh, and as endorsements go it doesn’t get much better than that! Holland and Holland’s Royal over and under and side by side shotguns have been hugely influential in the world of gun making and are considered to be among the best shotguns in the world, but they don’t come cheap. Of the two the over and under is the most expensive, and although it has been updated throughout the years the quality is as high as ever. Even at £89,000 it looks worth every penny!

VO Vapen Falcon Edition – Estimated price: £511,000

vo vapen

The VO Vapen Falcon edition is one of the most expensive shotguns ever made and there are only five in the world. Swedish master gunsmiths Viggo Olsson and his son are renowned for their attention to detail and every part of every gun they produce is filed and polished by hand, before being sent to be gilded and engraved. The Falcon edition is inspired by trips to Dubai and the United Arab Emirates and each one of the five produced is unique to its owner. Despite the whopping price tag there’s still plenty of demand for VO Vapen shotguns, and with customers such as the United Arab Emirates royal family on their books they can afford to charge what they like!

Fabbri Over and Under – Estimated price: £150,000

Fabbri over and under

Family run Italian gun makers Fabbri have been making some of the most sought after shotguns in the world for over 40 years now, and are considered to be one of the best gun makers outside of London. Unlike most traditional gun makers Fabbri embrace technology and their factory in Brescia, Italy is more of a laboratory than a workshop, but the end results speak for themselves. Despite the eye-watering prices there’s currently a six year waiting list for a custom built Fabbri shotgun, so if you fancy adding some Italian flair to your collection you’ll probably have to wait a little bit longer – but at least that’ll give you plenty of time to save up the £150,000 asking price.

Purdey Gold-Inlaid Matched Pair – Estimate price: £250,000

The Purdey family were experimenting with over and under designs as far back as 1871 and have a long history of producing high quality shotguns. Their weapons are famous the world over and an antique Purdey shotgun can cost as much, if not more than one of their latest bespoke creations. In 2008 a pair of gold-inlaid 12 bore Purdey shotguns were valued at over £250,000 making them two of the most valuable shotguns in the world. Thankfully a brand new Purdey is a much more affordable alternative coming in at a cool £130,000.
